Preparing for The Big Step

Sheena, Sally & Matt are busy preparing for our Year 6 Transition project over the coming weeks.

Taking place every Summer Term since 2000 when Matt launched the project, The Big Step is an opportunity for primary school leavers to get acquainted with the secondary team, see myths dispelled and ask any questions they have about the next chapter in their young lives.

The team will be handing out "It's Your Move" to around 1,200 school leavers this year; the Scripture Union book provides a wealth of information for those preparing for secondary life, presenting it from a Christian perspective. It's extremely popular and the secondary team are always delighted when a student digs out their dog-eared, tatty copy from their rucksacks some years later.

While most tend to worry about getting lost in the warren of corridors at 'Big School', this is predominantly laughed off as part and parcel of the transition. For some though, this upcoming change in their lives brings with it a huge dose of anxiety. The aim of The Big Step is to help address that while building excitement in the young people so that they're ready to go!

We'll give updates as the project gathers momentum this term, but in the meantime do please pray for all the young people preparing for this new stage of life....pray that it will be a beautiful experience for all of them and that God will grant peace and reassurance to those who are struggling with this new chapter in their lives.
